Submission Guidelines
NONFICTION If you have been asked to send more information after e-mailing your
query letter to Barrett Books, please submit your
original query with your book proposal, and resumé. Be sure to include your
address, e-mail, phone numbers, and other relevant information (literary awards,
published articles/books, memberships in professional organizations,
experience on national radio/television, lectures, seminars, etc.). If
applicable, indicate the person or organization that referred you. To expedite a reply, please include an e-mail address. If you would
like your material returned, include a SASE that is large enough to enclose your proposal, along with
enough postage for its return. Please note that proposals are not returned
if a SASE is not included with the submission. FICTION If you are asked to send a submission after you have e-mailed a query of your book idea, please include your query letter (be sure to mention any
publishing credits), a detailed bio or resumé, and
the first three consecutive chapters. If asked to submit your full manuscript, be sure it has been typed on
one side of 8.5 by 11-inch white paper using a 12-point typeface,
double-spaced, with 1-inch margins all the way around. There should be a
header on every page that includes your name, book title, and consecutive page numbers.
Be sure to include your name, address, e-mail, and telephone numbers on the title
page. Do not bind or staple your manuscript. To expedite a reply, please include an e-mail address. If you would
like your material returned, include a SASE that is large enough to hold your chapters (or full
manuscript) with enough postage for return. Manuscripts and sample
chapters are not returned if a SASE is not included with the submission. Note: Be sure to make a copy of everything submitted.
Use USPS Priority Mail with delivery notification, DHL,
FedEx, or similar ground delivery to track your package. Please do not
