In 1999, Audra Barrett established Barrett Books, a Maryland-based literary agency, to support a growing population of talented African-American authors who were underrepresented in the publishing industry. Barrett Books serves a new generation of outstanding authors who offer a literary style reflective of urban or contemporary culture.

Barrett Books is dedicated to representing exceptional writers whose literature may be of special appeal to African-American readers.
